This week I’ve decided to post on Bank Holiday Monday instead of Sunday night. This is mainly due to the fact that I was busy eating a roast lamb Sunday lunch and lots of chocolate yesterday with my family! I hope that you had a restful Easter Sunday whether you celebrate the day for religious reasons or not.
This year Toby and I spent the Easter weekend with my parents which was lovely as we haven’t been able to do that for the past few years. When I was growing up in Kent, my parents would sometimes take us to an early morning service, called the Sunrise Service, which is held on the Wye downs on Easter Sunday. Lots of folk from various churches in Ashford gather together on the downs to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. When I was younger, I used to really dislike the cold and getting up so early on Easter Sunday but this year I was really excited to go. Not only to celebrate but also for nostalgic reasons. I saw some friends of my parents that I haven’t seen for about 15 years and so it was great to catch up with them as an adult! The sun had risen by the time the service started at 7am but it was so lovely to look out over Ashford on the bright and chilly morning and sing in celebration.
The Salvation Army was also there with a huge tea van where they distributed tea, coffee and biscuits for free. Amazing. You gotta love the Salvation Army. I headed straight to the van as soon as we got out of the car and took mine along to the service in order to help me stay warm.
I’m not sure why I’m looking so serious in this photo. Except to say that I take tea drinking very seriously. It was a wonderful day and I’m so glad that we got the opportunity to go to the service this year. If there is one near to you I recommend that you go along next year.
Suffice to say there was no Sunday night feeling last night as we have enjoyed the bank holiday off of work today. If you were at work today though, I hope it was a good one. Sunday night feeling posts will resume this coming Sunday!
Have a good week,
