4 small changes you should make to your home this year

I talk a lot about design and changing your home decor on this blog, but I’m mindful of the fact that folk don’t always want a dramatic change in their home. Sure, it’s nice to re-imagine a space and knock down some walls to build a new extension, or renovate your kitchen, but what if you don’t have the time or money? (Or frankly the inclination?!)

Thankfully, there are many minor things you can add or alter that will improve your home. To make life that little bit easier for you, here are some ideas for inspiration:

Go Eco-Friendly

Don’t be fooled into thinking that home improvements are all about how your property looks. Going eco-friendly is a brilliant way you can change the way your home feels, and give it a new purpose. With this idea, you can bring more eco-friendly furnishings to your home – like recycled furniture or items made from organic and sustainable products. Not only can this improve the interior design, but it’s also one of the top trends for 2019.

Create A Clutter-Free Space

Another change is to create a clutter-free space in your home. I’m sure you’ve heard by now of the popular Marie Kondo series on Netflix (well worth a watch if you haven’t had a chance to view yet) but if organising your entire home is a bit of leap for you right now, why not start with a small area? This can be a room, or even a corner in a room, as I appreciate that most people don’t have time to declutter their house from top to bottom in one go. You can then progress from here until you manage to create a clutter-free home.

Update your door locks/hardware

When we prepared our house for sale recently, we spent some time updating our front door and garden in order to improve our home’s kerb appeal. We painted the front door and looked into purchasing a new door number etc. It was a small change but it made a big difference. If you have recently moved then perhaps you want to change the door locks altogether. It’s easy to get some new locks fitted or replaced, and there are many places (like barrybros.com ) that run emergency services if you need locks replaced quickly within London.

Focus On Scents

Finally, if you don’t have the time or money to make any physical alterations to your home, you can work on creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere through burning scented candles or using reed diffusers. Something I noticed when viewing houses recently is that smells really are important! I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this of course, but allow me to encourage you not to underestimate the impact of the simple things, such as a candle or reed diffuser and bunch of brightly coloured flowers. It shows that you are taking pride in your home and care for it.

You don’t have to make huge changes to improve your home. Give these four small ideas a go if you want to feel the joy of developing your house without spending too much money. And as always, do let me know how you get on in the comments below.
